PCB chief announces World XI squad; Du Plessis appointed skipper
On 24th August, Pakistan Cricket board’s chairman Mr. Najam Sethi announced the squad for the upcoming International event in Lahore (Independence cup). The tournament includes 3 T20 matches, which will be played against the World XI team.
Mr. Najam Sethi announced that the World XI team will play under the captaincy of South African playing team captain Du Plessis and Andy Flower will perform the duties of a coach.
The independence cup will be played in Lahore Gaddafi Stadium on 12th, 13th and 14th of September 2017. The team is expected to arrive Pakistan on 11th September after the 2 days training camp in Dubai.
While talking to the media Sethi expressed that this is a proud moment for all the Pakistanis, he also said this is just another step towards the return of international cricket in Pakistan.
After the attack on the Srilankan team in 2009, the Pakistan team has to play all the matches outside the Pakistan. So this is considered as the return of international cricket in Pakistan as there are all the international players playing in the World XI squad, such as Tim Paine (Australia) Darren Sammy (Windies) and Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka).
All the team is happy with the security arrangements done by the government of Pakistan and ready to be the part of this big event.
In the same press conference, Sethi said the next challenge for the PCB is to organize an International match in Karachi. He said that still the security experts are not yet ready to organize such an event in Karachi but they are looking forward to organize that in Karachi very soon as Mr. Sethi asked his security team to visit Karachi and draw up a security plan.
