NAB gears up for references against Sharifs

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided instead of sending more notices to Mr. Nawaz Sharif former prime minister of Pakistan and his children they will prepare references against them in accordance with Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict.

A senior Accountability Bureau official told News Time “The bureau is obligated to issue notices to Nawaz Sharif and his children under the law.” He further added “The investigation team has fulfilled that requirement and NAB can now file a reference”. The NAB Official quoted Sharif family has given up an opportunity to present a defence.

It is obligatory for NAB to file references against Sharif family within six weeks of the verdict by the spirit of the verdict.

However legal team experts believe “The Sharif family has no remedy except to wait for the hearing of their review petition against the July 28 verdict,” adding “[It is to be seen] how the high court can hear the respondents’ grievances in the existence of the Supreme Court’s verdict.”

Sharif family has already expressed the concerns over the appointment of a Supreme Court judge who will supervise the NAB proceedings.
