JUI-F leader gunned down in Dera Ismail Khan

A Jamiat Ulema-e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader was gunned down by unidentified men riding a motorbike early Saturday morning.

Attaullah Shah was on his way home from the mosque after leading Fajr prayers when the armed men opened fire on him. Officials said Shah died on the spot.

Police termed the killing ‘sectarian’ in nature and an FIR was registered against unidentified persons.

This is the fourth incident of target killing to have taken place in the district in the last one week.

Shah, who was a khateeb, was also JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s spiritual teacher.

JUI-F leaders have been on cross-hairs of the killers as last month its leader Qari Haq Nawaz was shot dead in Charsadda. The cleric was returning home after offering morning prayers in a mosque when he was targeted, local police said. Nawaz was the founder of and a teacher at Jama-e-Muhammadia in Matta Mughal Khel area of Charsadda.
