1,000-year-old Jesus tapestry seized in southern Turkey

1000-year-old tapestry was seized by Turkish police on Monday depicting Jesus Christ and twelve apostles in southern Adana province and also arrested three people alleged of artifact smuggling.

The tapestry was hidden in a bedroom closet, which Police got a tip for and managed to arrest the owner of the house, M.P., along with his son, H.P. and another suspect, M.A. on charges of artifact smuggling. The Police had this information that the tapestry was being sold for 3 million euros in black market.

The suspects earlier claimed in their testimony that they are the actual owner of this tapestry for a long time, which was a souvenir and demanded the police department to hand it back.

During the raid, the police also found one non permitted pump-action rifle, handcuffs, two knives and brass knuckles.

The tapestry, which measures about 140 cm in length (4.5 feet) and 80 cm in width (2.62 feet), will be handed over to Adana Museum Directorate.
